Meet our Team

CAAI is the engineering and architecture centre for AI at HDS: a practitioner-led centre that turns Hitachi global “AI ambition” into repeatable, governed delivery. The team builds reference architectures, reusable components, guardrails, and evaluation methods that can be deployed across client environments (cloud and hybrid) and productised into internal accelerators.

The role

You’ll design, build, and operate AI capabilities that can be safely embedded into real delivery: from LLM-enabled workflows to RAG and agent-based systems, integrated into enterprise applications and platforms, and maintained to production standards.

What you’ll do (core responsibilities)

• Engineer AI solutions end-to-end: data preparation, model or LLM integration, evaluation, deployment, and operational monitoring.
• Translate business and delivery needs into working AI designs (including integration patterns and APIs), collaborating with architects, platform engineers, and client stakeholders.
• Contribute reusable assets: reference implementations, patterns, templates, internal libraries, and delivery playbooks.
• Build with production discipline: testing, version control, CI/CD alignment, and pragmatic performance/scalability considerations.
• Deliver production-grade AI components independently, mentor juniors informally, and improve CAAI’s reusable assets.
• Own small-to-mid AI workstreams: from design through release and operational handover.
• Engineer RAG and agent-based capabilities with clear evaluation, failure-mode handling, and measurable outcomes.
• Partner with solution architects to integrate AI into broader delivery (identity, security boundaries, data access patterns).

What you’ll bring

• Strong software engineering in Python (and/or TypeScript/C#), building API-first services and integrating AI capabilities into real application layers (notebooks to production).
• Practical agent/LLM application engineering: prompt/tool design, orchestration patterns, and integrating with agent frameworks such as LangChain or Semantic Kernel (or equivalent).
• Retrieval and knowledge patterns: embeddings, vector search, indexing, and using fit-for-purpose stores (vector DB, relational DB, graph DB, cache) to support RAG-style systems and memory.
• MLOps/LLMOps hygiene: reproducibility and lifecycle management (experiment tracking, evaluation, packaging, and model/app versioning), using tools such as MLflow (or equivalent).
• Working knowledge of ML/GenAI concepts and common frameworks (for example PyTorch; Hugging Face where relevant).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and the practicalities of deploying AI services into real environments.
• Clear communication and a habit of writing things down (design notes, trade-offs, runbooks).
• Degree (or equivalent experience) in CS/Engineering/Maths; strong fundamentals and programming ability.
• Hands-on delivery experience with GenAI, including RAG and agent-based systems; comfort with common orchestration tooling.
• Solid cloud engineering habits: services integration, deployment patterns, and reliability basics.
