Winning your first sustainability award feels like showing up to your first marathon and leaving with a medal. That’s exactly how it felt for us at Hitachi Digital Services when, this January, we received a Silver Medal from EcoVadis, as a newly operational company.
For those who aren’t deep into the sustainability world (yet), EcoVadis is one of the most trusted global providers of business sustainability ratings. They evaluate companies across four major pillars:
- Environment
- Labor & Human Rights
- Ethics
- Sustainable Procurement
Their assessments are rigorous, evidence-based, and trusted by most global companies. That is what makes this medal feel even more important to us.
When you’re a newly developing technology company, a million things are competing for attention: building the service and solution products, delivering excellence to our customers, creating an impactful employee team, managing cash flow, etc. Sustainability can sometimes become something you “get to later.” At Hitachi Digital Services, we decided it wouldn’t be.
From day one, we built our business with responsibility in mind – not because it’s trendy, but because it’s foundational for who we are as a business and as part of the Hitachi Group family. Environmental tracking, ESG policies, employee wellness and safety, supplier standards, ethics training – these things can be the less glamorous, but critically important, stuff. In technology, performance used to be measured by speed, uptime, and scalability, but today, another metric is shaping enterprise decisions: sustainability.
That’s why earning a Silver Medal from EcoVadis isn’t just a milestone for us – it’s a signal to our customers.
Not just about our compliance.
Not just about our risk management.
But about our resilience.
Our pursuit of Silver wasn’t about scoring points. It was about future-proofing how we operate, so any gaps don’t constrain our customers’ own business growth. And if this is what year two looks like? We’re excited for what’s next!
Onward – responsibly.
