A US Utility Serving 10m+ Customers Expands Asset Intelligence Across its Grid
A major US utility wanted to extend and entrench Lumada Asset Performance Management across a broader set of grid assets. The goal was to move asset health insight and maintenance prioritization beyond an initial footprint and apply it to more equipment categories, including transmission assets and substation components that support safe, reliable power delivery.
Hitachi Digital Services expanded the use of Lumada Asset Performance Management and deployed AI-based inspection capabilities across additional asset classes.
The solution included Hitachi Image-Based Inspections for lines, towers and poles, using AI-based image analytics and defect detection to reduce transmission line failure risk. Lumada Asset Performance Management was also extended to circuit switchers, digital relays, instrument transformers, battery chargers, and custom utility assets.
Together, these capabilities created a broader asset intelligence foundation: visual defect detection for field assets, and health assessment workflows for equipment maintenance prioritization.
The expanded solution strengthens asset health assessment and helps prioritize maintenance where risk matters most.
- Extended Lumada Asset Performance Management to additional critical asset categories.
- Supported asset health assessment and maintenance prioritization across the expanded portfolio.
- Used AI-based image analytics and defect detection to reduce the risk of transmission line failures.
- Created custom models for utility-specific assets.
